Retreat Details

Yoga is an intimate participation in life. It is available to everyone; through breath, movement and emotional relatedness. This retreat is suitable for all yoga students who already have a regular practice and would like to develop their practice into a lifelong dedication to wellbeing. Throughout the week Peter will reveal key principles of mental attitude, breath and movement that unlock the vast simplicity and beauty of genuine yoga practice.

Coming away on retreat is a valuable experience: it allows the student to immerse themselves in both the physical and mental practice, unencumbered by normal daily routines and nurtured in the warmth and hospitality of Fiji. Then returning home with a personal embodied practice that already integrates easily into daily life.

The practice is a dynamic all-levels vinyasa movement, including pranayama and meditation; and is adapted to be appropriate for each individual. Students are expected to be comfortable with simple asana instructions. There will be some graceful poetic asana offered as well as some challenging and perhaps near impossible asana. In the spirit of life participation you simply do what you can, without ego. You can look at some videos of Peter’s practice on his website.

Peter will guide the students through each practice, emphasizing the fun and joy inherent in yoga and accompanying them on their journey as they explore aspects of their body and mind that they have probably never visited before.

As always, Peter aims to give every student an understanding of the guiding principles of yoga. Each class is a practice of “what can be done” (sadhana) including posture, breathing, meditation, and chanting.

Instructor Details

Peter Cohen is an internationally recognised master yoga teacher who has studied extensively in the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya under master teachers Mark Whitwell (Heart of Yoga) and Nicky Knoff (senior Iyengar and Ashtanga teacher). Twice RYT 500hr+ certified, Peter has taught yoga for over a decade. Also trained in traditional Tibetan yoga by Lama Urgyen Yeshe Ozer, Peter was a resident meditation and yoga teacher at Odiyana Buddhist Centre for four years before founding Awakening Tree Yoga. Worldwide, Peter is the only highly accredited yogi who is also a certified Feldenkrais movement specialist. A certified Reiki master and NLP practitioner, Peter teaches in Melbourne, Bali and Fiji.
